Emmitt Ray Grimes of Melbourne, son of the late Franklin and Oma Coleman Grimes was born December 22, 1933 in Guion. He died January 24, 2000 at his home in Melbourne. He was 66.
Mr. Grimes was united in marriage to Shirley Jones March 16, 1987 in Mountain View. He spent his life as a farmer. He was a member of the East Side Church of Christ in Melbourne.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; one daughter, Melissa Garner and her husband, Tony Hiberd of Batesville; one son Keith Grimes and his wife, Jennifer of Melbourne; two sisters, Nana Mae Harvell of Melbourne; and Evelyn Wiseman of Seneth, Missouri; one brother, Richard Grimes of Guion; two grandchildren, Ashley Grimes and Ethan "Ty" Grimes. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Funeral services were held January 26, 2000 at the Roman and Billy Memorial Chapel with Reverend Harold Fite officiating. Pallbearers were Raymond Owens, Ronnie Stovall, Tommy Adams, Lynn Smith, Brian Biard, and Doyle Love.
Interment was in Reeves Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
