Eliza J. Floyd {nee Snodgrass} was born at Sparta, Tenn. Jan. 3, 1833 and died at her home in Bentonville, Feb. 25, 1909 at 6 p.m., aged 76 years, 1 month and 22 days. She was married to John W. Floyd Oct. 10, 1854. To them were born seven children, five of whom are living {Wm. S., J.C., J.R., F.F. and Carrie Maxwell} . Two preceded her to heaven {Maggie and Birdie}. She and her husband came to Arkansas in the fall of 1869, settling near Bentonville. They have had continuous residence in and around Bentonville since that time until their deaths. Her husband, with whom she lived long and happily, went to heaven Feb. 24, 1907. She has been in feeble health for some time. She fully expected to go to rest before her husband and from the day he went away she has waited for the message calling her to glory. Last Monday she was a little indisposed but no serious apprehension was felt for her until later. Thursday morning she was thought to be doing well but at noon she began to sink. It was soon seen that death was near. She became a christian in her girlhood days and joined the M.E. church, South. She lived a beautiful consistent life and died the death of God's noble saint. She was a queenly woman, possessed of all those noble virtues of womanhood which are worthy of praise. She was a noble home-maker and home-lover. She was devoted to her church, loyal every day in the long calendar of the years since she began the christian life. She has the rare privilege and honor of holding a "Certificate of Life Membership" in the Missionary Society of the M.E. Church, South, dated Sept. 1854 and signed by Joshua Soule. She leaves five children, a large number of grandchildren, one brother and many other relatives and friends. May God bless each and all of them and bring all to the "haven of rest." The funeral was conducted at the M.E. church, South and her body was interred in the City Cemetery R.E.L. Bearden.
