Obituary- Grace Mormon Crosby Elton, 89, of Hamburg died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at her residence in Hamburg. A native and lifelong resident of Ashley County, she graduated from Portland High School in 1939. She was a telephone switchboard operator for nine years and a retired beautician. She was a member of the Hamburg Eastern Star, having received her 50 year pin, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She liked to paint, quilt and do needle work.
She is survived by a sister, Jean Shelton; and a brother, John Mormon, both of Hamburg; a step-son, Murray Elton and wife Julie of Jonesboro; a special friend, Charlie Mae Wallace of Hamburg; a great-great niece, Sara Elizabeth Brandon; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, P.C. Crosby in 1960 and Murray Elton in 1984; her parents, J. W. and Minnie Jones Mormon; and two sisters, Jessie Gober and Martha Wall.
Grave-side services and burial were at 2 p.m., Monday, January 4, at the Snyder Cemetery with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Hamburg Masonic Lodge and the Hamburg Eastern Star Members.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
