Rhea Starr Jr.

JONESBORO - Rhea Starr Jr., 89, of Jonesboro died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at his home.

Born at Imboden, Rhea lived in Pocahontas before moving to Jonesboro in 1967. He was a retired property manager and Realtor with Guaranty Real Estate in Jonesboro. Before working with Guaranty, Rhea worked several years for the Star Herald Newspaper in Pocahontas.

Rhea was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was of the Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rhea Sr. and Ellen Phillips Starr; two sisters, Lillian Hackworth and Virginia Castleman; and a granddaughter, Ashley Webb Bailey.

Rhea was the most kind, loving, and generous man. If you knew him, you loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Gilley Starr of the home; five daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Mack Palmer of Jonesboro, Kaye and Randy Ferguson and Bren and Steve Watkins, all of Bono, Karen and Tommy Eakins of Lake City and Lisa and Tommy Kennedy of Jonesboro; a stepdaughter, Sherrie Ellis of Monette; three sisters, Mary Pope of Pocahontas and Ruth (Cecil) Potter and Roberta Stephens, both of Imboden; two brothers, Herb (Elsie) Starr of Jonesboro and Everett (Hazel) Starr of Sherwood; five grandchildren, Kristi Haynes, Hollie Barnes, Tiffany Tull, T.J. Eakins and Daniel Eakins; two stepgrandchildren, Aron Ellis and Chase Ellis; six great-grandchildren, Caroline and Chase Haynes, Isabella and Abby Tull and Ryley and Parker Eakins, and arriving in June, Callen Rhea Eakins; and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Larry Ward officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Hope Cemetery at Imboden.

Nephews will serve as active pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will include John Marcom, Henry Gschwend, Harry Colbert, Charlie Spradley, Henry Burnett, Lonnie Roberts and Mark Arnold.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday in the chapel.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 1 Children’s Way, Little Rock 72202-3591.
