Essie Mae Mabes
Essie Mae Mabes, of Viola, daughter of the late John Barber
and Jessie Clement Barber, was born December 27, 1927 in
Milfay, Oklahoma. She died February 17, 2013 at Fulton
County Hospital in Salem, at the age of 85 years 1 month and
21 days.
She was united in marriage to Rufus Richard Mabes on October 25, 1946 at Melbourne . She was employed by Fulton County Nursing Center for twenty-three years. She attended services at Viola Assembly of God.
Survivors include her children; Richard Mabes and wife Linda of Viola, Wanda Haag and husband Tom of Wenatchee, Washington, and Lorie Williams and fiance’ Michael Parr of Cave City; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Patty Cambron of Kansas City, Missouri, Wanda Cotter of Gepp, and Helen White of Viola; brothers, Author Barber of Vanndale, Arkansas, Duane Barber of Viola, Junior Barber of Vanndale, Arkansas, Duane Barber of Viola, Junior Barber of Peculiar, Missouri, and J.D. Barber of Lees Summit, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Billy Mabes; daughters, Brenda Yates, and Patricia Mabes; brother, Lloyd Barber; sisters, Fannie Painter, and Marie Tackett, and her father and mother. Pallbearers are Michael Parr, Richard Mabes, Roman Mabes, Tim Haggard, Ronnie Cotter Jr., and John Yates Jr.
Graveside Services are Wendesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at 2 pm at Viola Cemetery with burial to follow, under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 pm in Cox-Blevins Chapel.
