BURKS, Ella Newton - It is with sincere regret that we are called upon to chronicle the death of Mrs. Ella Newton Burks, wife of B.T. Burks, which occurred at her home in this city on last Tuesday evening, May 15, 1906 at 5:30 o'clock after an illness of some two weeks' duration, paralysis being the immediate cause of her death. The deceased was in the 35th year of her age. She was of a most amiable disposition - kind, gentle and lovable and was held in the highest esteem by her friends, which included everyone who knew her. About two years ago she and B.T. Burks were married and it seemed there was a long and useful career in store for his happy couple but, alas, it was not to be. The loving wife is torn from the arms of a devoted husband in the prime of life and the blow thus dealt to the distracted loved one left behind is almost beyond human endurance. But he is not alone in his sorrow for there is a father and mother, brother and sister, whose aching hearts throb in unison with that of the husband while other relatives and friends innumerable bow their heads in agitating sorrow and mingle their tears with those of the grief-stricken family. Funeral services were held at 3:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the M.E. Church, South, the deceased having been a devout member of that organization, after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Odd Fellows' cemetery. The Democrat joins the entire community in extending sympathy and condolence to the bereaved relatives in this sad hour of affliction.
