Athel Laverne Dihel, 97, of Viola, Arkansas, was born on October 31, 1915, in Viola, Arkansas, daughter of Jessie Andy and Nancy Clementine (Herron) Carroll. She departed this life on Friday, November 30, 2012, at Southfork River Therapy and Living Center in Salem, Arkansas.
Athel was united in marriage to Otis M. Dihel on September 23, 1939, in West Plains, Missouri. She spent her working years as a teacher for Viola School Systems and she was a member of the Viola Church of Christ.
She leaves to mourn her passing: eleven nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, Twyman, Truman and Alden Carroll and two sisters, Evelyn Starr and Andyne Broadway.
Funeral services will be held at Viola Church of Christ in Viola, Arkansas, 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 4, 2012, with Bro. Frank Plachy and Bro. Robert Lash officiating. Interment wil be in the Viola Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas. The body will lie in state Monday, 1200-4:30 PM, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Scotty Carroll, Kenneth Felts, Larry Burns, Greg Williams, Ricky Harber and L. J. Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Williams and Neal McCandlis.
