ATKISSON, J.B. "Byron" - J.B. Atkisson, city marshal of Rogers, better known to the people of this section as "Byron," died yesterday morning at his home, corner of Second and Elm streets. He had been unconscious for several days and his death had been hourly expected for some time. He was taken ill last week and his condition was serious from the very first. Death was the result of heart trouble and complications. Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Central M.E. church at 2:30 o'clock and will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. Eli Myers. Interment in the Rogers cemetery. Mr. Atkisson was 55 years of age and had lived most of his life in this county. He was serving his second term as city marshal of Rogers, having been re-elected this spring by a large majority. He had served as deputy marshal, nightwatch, township constable, deputy sheriff, both in Benton and other counties, and had been in that line of work for many years and was efficient and trustworthy and had a large circle of friends thruout the city and county who will learn of his sudden death with much regret. Mr. Atkisson was born at Licking, Mo. February 1865. He came to Benton county with his parents at the age of eleven years and grew to manhood in this community. He was married to Miss Marietta Sikes, daughter of Willis Sikes, Nov. 18, 1885. To this union was born seven children: Mrs. H.A. Gordon of Rogers; C.C. Atkisson of Whittier, Calif.; Mrs. A.M. Sherill of Rogers; C.L. Atkisson of Tulsa; Mrs. J.E. Webb of Miami, Okla. and Glen E. and Miss Fay, who lived at home. All were present at the bedside of their father when he passed away. He is also survived by three brothers, J.L. Atkisson of Garfield and W.S. and J.G. Atkisson of Washington county.

ATKISSON, Mrs. J. Byron (SIKES} - Mrs. Atkisson, widow of the late J. Byron Atkisson, died Saturday afternoon at 1:20 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.M. Sherrill, in the south part of town. She had been seriously ill for several weeks and her death was not unexpected by the friends and family. Funeral services were held at the Central M.E. church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.W. Crichlow. Burial was by the side of her husband who died May 19, 1920. Mrs. Atkisson was born in Benton county 56 years ago and was a daughter of Willis Sikes and a niece of Uncle Wade Sikes. She was married to J.B. Atkisson November 18, 1885 and most of their married life was spent in Rogers where Mr. Atkisson served for many years as city marshal, deputy sheriff, township constable, etc. Mrs. Atkisson is survived by seven children, three sons and four daughters: Mrs. H.A. Gordon of Rogers; C.C. Atkisson of Whittier, Cal.; Mrs. A.M. Sherrill of Rogers; C.L. Atkisson of Tulsa; Mrs. J.E. Webb of Miami, Okla.; Glen Atkisson and Miss Fay Atkisson. All of the children were with their mother at the time of her death and had been here for a week previous. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their hour of bereavement and sorrow.
