The Salem Headlight, Salem, Arkansas, January 7, 1944:

Ida J. Ashley, 75, died at her home near Viola yesterday morning at 3 o'clock a.m.. after a long illness of several months. She was a native of Izard Co., Arkansas having been born near Violet Hill October 15, 1867 a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Ashley, pioneer residents of this and Izard Co., Arkansas. For a number of years she followed the occupation of teaching in the public school. Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Viola Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Viola cemetery with the Higginbothem Funeral Service in charge. Deceased is survived by four brothers, Clyde, Clarence, and Harry Ashley of Viola, Arkansas and Lanis Ashley of Little Rock, Arkansas one sister Mrs. W. E. Wainwright of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
