Born March 23, 1828 in Crawford County, Indiana
Died February 10, 1904 on the Rice Farm, Marche, Pulaski County, Arkansas
Son of Jonathan & Margaret Edwards Rice.
Husband of Lucinda Heflin Rice.
Married August 13, 1848 in Knox County, Illinois.
In 1855, they moved to land in Henry County, Iowa.
He enlisted in the Union Army at New London, Iowa into the First Iowa Infantry Regiment Company E. as a Corporal and then a Sergeant.
On October 11, 1863 he was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the 60th Infantry Colored Regiment Company E.
He was Honorably Discharged at DeVall's Bluff, Prairie County, Arkansas on October 15, 1865.
By 1870, he was living on 80 acres near the present Marche Community in Pulaski County, Arkansas.
He was the father of Ada, Alva, Frank, Fanny, Nelly, Elea and Charles Rice.
