Mr. and Mrs. E.D. ROMINE, who reside on Park Street here [Pocahontas], received a telegram from the War Department Monday morning announcing that their son, Pvt. John D. Romine, aged 24, had been killed in action in Korea on Sept. 2. PSH 4 Sep 1950 (taken from In the Long Ago, PSH 10 Sep 1998)
The body of Pvt. John D. Romine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar D. Romine of Pocahontas, was one of 126 American soldiers killed in the Korean fighting scheduled to arrive in San Francisco last Tuesday. Pvt. Romine was the first Randolph County soldier to loose his life in Korea.
