William Perry Goodwin was born 22 August 1923 at Wynne, Arkansas, the son of Otto Eugene and Mary Alice Vest Goodwin. He had five brothers and sisters: Dean, Bob, James, Mable and Opal. William attended the McElroy Community Schools and fanned.
He entered the Army 15 Apri11944 at Camp Joseph T. Robinson in Little Rock and saw action on Luzon and the Southern Philippine Campaigns. William was assigned as Mess Sergeant and remembers vividly feeding General MacArthur many times.
William was discharged 1 May 1946 at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.
He resumed farming and worked for the Arkansas Highway Department. William married Agnes Virginia Martin and they had two children: Bill and Connie.
William died 6 November 1967 and was buried at Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne.
