Peggyjane Samantha Murphy Nelson of Violet Hill, daughter of the late Lawrence W. and Ruby Simpson Scholl was born near the village of Corgu, New York and spent her formative years on her father's farm there. After the family moved to California, she met and married businessman and newspaper columnist Jack Murphy. To this union, two daughters were born. After her children were in school, Peggyjane, who was a child psychologist, worked with non-profit or organizations in the Los Angeles area serving deprived children. She was also an avid supporter of the Los Angeles Symphonic Orchestra and Art Museum. She was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School at the Eagle Rock Baptist Church in Los Angeles. Sometime after the death of Jack Murphy, Peggyjane met and married John W. Nelson of the farming community of Violet Hill and graciously lived on a farm near there. She was a member of the Organization of Easter Star and the past Queen of the Mat-ta-nah Temple, daughter of the Nile. Survivors include her husband John Nelson of the home; one daughter, Peggyjane Murphy, Jr., of Mentone, California; two granddaughters, Megan Murphy-Lee and Maureen Marie Gibbs; five step-children, Clella Kathryn Nelson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Paul Allen Nelson of Phoenix, Arizona; Debra Bailey of Batesville; Lesa Marie Kaiser of Carsonville, Missouri; John Nelson, J., of Nashville, Tennessee; nine step-grandchildren; Paula, Holly, Christina, Casey, Cole, Zachary, Kaitlyn, Taylor and Austin; one brother, Lawrence School of Ridgecrest, California; one sister, Geraldine Boucher of Richland, Pennsylvania; one much loved mother-in-law, Clella Wiley of Albuquerque, New Mexico; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one husband, Jack Murphy and one daughter, Melissa Anne Murphy-Lee. Funeral services were held August 20, 2002 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel with Doyne Robertson officiating. Pallbearers were Paul Nelson, Robert Bailey, Mike Kaiser, John Nelson, Jr., Clint Rhine, and Johnny Greehaws. Interment was at Old Philadelphia Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
