MOCK, John D. - John D. Mock, one of the pioneer citizens of Rogers and best known to our people as "Dan," died Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 o'clock at his home at 214 East Cedar street where he had lived for many years. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 and were conducted by Rev. Lee Edwards, pastor of the Christian church of which the deceased had been a faithful member since early manhood. Burial was in the Rogers cemetery by the side of his wife who died nine years ago. For many years Mr. Mock was in the dray and teaming business and his team of mules was one of the most familiar sights on our streets. It was not until advancing age (he was 86 years old) and the advent of the auto trucks came that he gave up his work and retired to spend his days at his home with his daughters and on the street with his friends. Mr. Mock was always a good citizen - quiet and unassuming but the kind of a man that is always trying to do the right thing. Mr. Mock was born June 21, 1842 at Lancaster, Ohio, moving with his parents to Illinois at the age of ten. In 1861 he enlisted in the Union army, Co. D, 98th Ill. Inf., and served until the end of the war. At the age of 28 he married Mary Jane James and to this union was born five children. One son died in infancy; the other son, Dick Mock, one of the best known conductors on the Frisco system, died in 1926 at Fayetteville. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Stella Hensley of Carthage and Misses Mary and Maggie Mock living at home and caring for him in his recent illness. Miss Maggie was for many years cashier at Strouds. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary White of Onlong, Ill. and one brother, David Mock of Rogers. Mr. Mock and family came to Arkansas from Illinois in 1878.
