Betty Lou Tackett, age 68, of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away Monday, October 24, 2005, at White County Medical Center in Searcy. Born in Gillette, Arkansas, on June 29, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Ethel Elizabeth (Smith) Nick. A resident of Quitman for most of her life, Betty had been an employee of Quitman Public School where she worked for many years as a bookkeeper and secretary. She was a member of Howard General Baptist Church at Quitman. Betty is survived by her husband of forty-six years, Raymond L. Tackett of Quitman;her son and daughter-in-law, Gary Leon and Roxann Tackett of Quitman; one brother, Billy W. Nick of Greenbrier; three sisters, Thelma J. Lisko and Willa M. Dome, both of Quitman, and Wanda L. Shirkey of Ben, Oregon; three grandchildren, Jennifer Tackett, Amber Gillespie, and Chelsea Tackett, all of Quitman; two great-grandchildren, Drake Gillespie and Hunter Tackett, both of Quitman; and Marco Sanchez, a 1976 foreign exchange student from Quito, Ecuador, who attended school at Quitman and was adopted by the Tackett family. Betty is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Howard General Baptist Church with Rev. Victor Fisher and Rev. Kerry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Center Point Cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
