FAYETTEVILLE — Our heart aches with great sadness to announce the loss of our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Helen Reed Wood.
Following a brief illness with liver cancer, Mary passed away at the age of 74 at Circle of Life in Springdale, Ark., on Jan. 18, 2011. She was born on Oct. 19, 1936, in Hicks, Ark., to Raymond A. and Pansy E. (Paschal) Reed.
Mary was the middle daughter of three children. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her two sisters, Roberta F. Reed and Lois Ruth Reed Kneedler. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Glen Wood, and by her second husband, Billy Dale Thomas.
She is survived by her son, Donald Ray Wood and wife, Claressa, of Fayetteville, Ark. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Megan Ashley Wood Weinkauf and husband, Derek, of Tulsa, Okla., and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Wood of Fayetteville, Ark.
Mary graduated from Elkins High School, Elkins, Ark., in 1954. After graduation, she married Donald Glen Wood, and then started her 33-year career with Levi Strauss & Company in Fayetteville, Ark., which she held the positions of operator, supervisor and line manager.
Mary loved her pet dog named Princess with all of her heart. But, most of all, her heart overflowed with pride and Joy for her two granddaughters, Megan and Kaitlyn. Mary loved her family, friends and extended family so much. She had a passion for cooking (especially large meals), working in the hay fields, generously giving care to others and genuine concern on how others were doing. Even in her last days with us on this earth, she was still trying to do her best to give openhandedly to others. She was a heartfelt person, and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and extended family.
Visitation will be held today, Jan. 20, at Moore's Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in the Chapel of Moore's Chapel, with the Rev. H.M. Shipp officiating. Burial will follow at Round Mountain Cemetery.
