Melody Ann Darby, 17, of Mount Vernon was killed Sunday when the car she was driving on Arkansas 33 in Augusta failed to stop at a stop sign at an intersection with U.S. 64 and collided with a tractor-trailer truck, state police said.

Angel E. Fortner, 19, of Rose Bud, a passenger in the car, was injured and taken to a hospital in Searcy, Arkansas State Police said.

The accident happened about 8:40 p.m.

Melody A. Darby, 17, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday (Aug. 3, 2003).

Born Nov. 26, 1985, in Little Rock, a daughter of Thomas Edward Darby and Donna Gadway Darby of Mount Vernon, she was a senior at Mount Vernon-Enola High School.

Other survivors are her brother, Scott Edward Darby of El Paso; a sister, Misty Summer Darby of Mount Vernon; and her grandparents, Joys and Calvin Kearney of Little Rock.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with the Rev. Roy Matlock officiating. Burial will be in Romance Cemetery.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Tony Altman, Walter Pate, Chris Pate, Chris Crowder, David Wayman and Randy Wells.
