He fought the good fight, but he couldn't fight forever.

Our beloved eldest son, Henry "Dakota" Hawkins, 15, of Cabot, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 8:50 a.m., in his home.

Dakota's character will live on and continue teaching all of us how to live. His favorite scripture was lived out each day as he battled with leukemia, then graft vs. host diseaseā€¦"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Phil. 4:13. Never did his dad, brother or I hear him complain or question "why me Lord"? His strength was beyond measure and his faith beyond comprehension.

Dakota loved the Lord Jesus and depended on him for every breath. Everyday he recited in his prayers "thank you Lord for giving me another day of life." Dakota's Christian walk began at age 7. We rejoice in knowing we will see him again soon.
Dakota was an outgoing young man who loved playing football and basketball. He adored time spent with his family and friends. He was creative and could make something out of nothing. He was an avid deer hunter and adored his dog, "Truck." His smile and personality could light up the world. Early on he drew his dad and me a picture in church with the words, "I want to be a missionary" and that calling came to be.

Dakota was an exemplary student and thrived in being a part of the Gifted and Talented Program. He was an active member of his youth group at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He enjoyed all sports, the great outdoors, and being with people he loved.

Celebration services were held on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Cabot's First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Burial followed at Old Austin Cemetery. Visitation for all was Saturday, March 4, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cabot's First Baptist Church. Arrangements were by Cabot Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to contribute to the Dakota Hawkins Scholarship Fund for his little brother, Riley Hawkins at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 163 Mt. Carmel, Cabot, Arkansas 72023.

Survivors include his parents, Sharon and Henry Hawkins; his heroic younger brother, Riley Hawkins; grandparents, Henry "Frank" Hawkins and Lu Hawkins of Cabot, Arkansas and Barden Lamb of Delight, AR. Dakota was blessed by many aunts and uncles and eleven immediate cousins who adored him. He was preceded in death by an unborn sibling, his grandmothers, Ella Sue Hawkins and Jaunez Watson Lamb.

Dakota fought the good fight; he kept the faith. Our prayers have been answered, Dakota won the race!
