William Benjamin (Ben) Shearer, age 82, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at the White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. He was born on July 21, 1928, in Bald Knob, Arkansas to the late Clarence B. and Wilma McLester Shearer. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. After returning to civilian life, he worked in die casting in Michigan, New York, and Muncie, Indiana. In Muncie he owned and operated Kiser Corporation, a die cast plant where he designed and developed Shear-Line golf clubs. Holding 21 patents, in 1999 he sold the company and moved back to Arkansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, J. C. Shearer and George Shearer.

Ben is survived by his wife of 61 years, Fleda Osburn Shearer of Heber Springs; a son, W. Gary Shearer and wife, Mary, of Muncie, Indiana; a daughter, Kimberly Jane Pride and husband, Dicky, of Orlando, Florida; five grandchildren, Courtney J. Leach (Trip) of Conway, Ashley Shearer of Little Rock, Lindsey Shearer of Muncie, Indiana, Isabelle Pride and Fletcher Pride, both of Orlando, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Quinten and Alex Leach; and a sister, Maggie Jean Douglas (Bob) of Heber Springs. Ben loved farming, gardening, golfing, and most of all, his grandchildren that called him Buddy.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 29, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Olmstead Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m. at the Heber Springs First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charle Cayton and Rev. Tommy Toombs officiating. Interment will follow in the Magness Cemetery.
