(from Coon Hollow) W. A. Harrington, familiarly known as Uncle Tom, passed away Thursday, April 10 at 9 o'clock p.m. Uncle Tom was born in Atlanta, Ga., the oldest of a family of six children. His father, a soldier in the Civil War, being killed, and he being the oldest child, was forced to assist in caring for his father's family. Together with his family and several others he came to this country when he was a lad of 13, making the trip in ox-drawn wagons. Here he met and married Rula Setser and to this union were born eight children, three girls and five boys. Three children and the mother preceded the father in death. For the past three years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Grover Hicks, and orphaned granddaughter, Miss Nadine Harrington. He passed away at the age of 84 years, leaving to mourn his departure, Joe Harrington of near Cherokee City; Merlin Harrington of near Gentry; John Harrington of Pittsburg, Kan.; Henry Harrington of New Rochelle, N. Y.; Mrs. Cora Hicks of near Gentry; Mrs. Delphia Gosney of Gentry, nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He has suffered from dropsy for the past two years. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved ones.
