GARMAN, I.R. - I.R. Garman, for over 70 years a resident of Gravette and community, died at his home at the south edge of town Friday, Nov. 24th following an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Garman had been in ill health for some months, though he had been able to be up and around until a short time ago. Mr. Garman, who was born in Texas, came to Benton county at the age of five just before the close of the Civil war and saw many changes in this section through the ages. Mr. Garman spent the greater part of his life farming and stock raising. He retired a few years ago due to his failing in health. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon by Rev. John B. Stephen, local pastor, and was attended by the relatives and a number of his old friends and neighbors. Burial was made in the Word cemetery. OBITUARY: I.R. Garman was born March 29th, 1858 near Dallas, Texas. He came to Benton county at the age of five and resided here the balance of his life. Death came to him Nov. 24, 1933 at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 26 days. He was married to Sarah Jane Wilkins in 1881. To this union was born six children, one son, Newt Garman of Gravette and five daughters: Mrs. William Austin and Mrs. H.M. Harris, both of Gravette; Mrs. O.M. Barton of Decatur; Mrs. Charley Hastings of Ganns, Okla. and Mrs. R.H. Londagin, who preceded him in death. After the death of his first wife he was married to Ferba Angeline Setser Nov. 1st, 1900. To this union were born two children, Roy and Richard, both of Gravette. Besides the children he leaves two brothers, E.H. and L.A. Garman, also of Gravette, and two sisters, Mrs. S.B. Johnson of Coweta, Okla. and Mrs. Joe Williams of Miami, Okla., and many near relatives. He was converted and united with the Baptist church at Mount Enterprise, commonly known as the old Georgia church, about 40 years ago. The children were all at the bedside when the end came. Burial was made at Word cemetery.
