Burl Wayne Thompson, 60, of Melbourne died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at a Calico Rock hospital.
Born Oct. 3, 1943 in San Benito, TX, he was the son of Burley Thompson and Katherine Gillihan Thompson. He retired from Boeing after 31 years of employment. He was a member of the Twin Creek Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Taylor Thompson; a stepson, Johnny Bookout Jr. of Violet Hill, AR; four daughters, Tammie Vest of Rockledge, FL, Teresa Hillsman of Newton, PA, Kathy Quenzer of Memphis, TN, and Amanda Stills of Melbourne; two stepdaughters, Melinda Clay of Cave City and Betty Tucker of Bono, AR; two brothers, Rayburn Thompson of San Diego, CA, and Larry Thompson of Kennewick, WA; four sisters, Delma Treat of Flippin and Jimmy Gillihan, Helen Gillihan and Delma McCollum, all of Melbourne; six grandchildren, Teresa Anne Vest, Billy Hillsman, Laura Hillsman, Michelle Hillsman, Emily Stills and Taylor Stills; and five step grandchildren, Courtney Bookout, T.J. Clay, Lane Clay, Lauren Tucker and Courtney Tucker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Sharon Beaty Thompson; and a brother, Eldon Thompson.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight. The funeral will be a 10 a.m. Sat. at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne. Burial will be in Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Pallbearers will be Charles Smith, Phil Gillihan, David Gillihan, Mike Gillihan, Clifton Gillihan, and Jimmie Smith. Honorary pallbearers are George Gillihan, R.H. Smith, and J.D. Conrad.
