Samuel Elijah Wildmon passed away on June 26, 2011, at his home in Hopewell. Born at home in Hopewell on December 28, 1941, to the late Arthur and Minnie Ann Wildmon, he was 69 years of age. Mr. Wildmon was a 20 year veteran of the USMC with 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, and he was a member of the American Legion. He was a faithful member of the South Cross Roads Church and was a trustee of the cemetery there for 10 years. Mr. Wildmon was a successful welding and gunshop owner. Known to the community as “Good Neighbor Sam,” he was a charter member of the Hopewell Fire Department, which he served for 25 years, including 12 years as Fire Chief and several years as a Board member. He was a certified State Fire Fighter instructor. Mr. Wildmon served with the Cleburne County EMS and the Hopewell First Responders. He was a certified CPR instructor, a member of the NRA, a concealed weapons carry course instructor, a member of the Cleburne County Shooting Club, and a former Cub Master and Scout Leader.

He is preceded in death by his parents; by brothers, Edd, Jesse, Jack, Cleo, Dan, and Glenn; and by his sisters, Wincie Ann, Jewel, Esther, Ethel, Lucy, and Angie Mae.

He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Lueen Webb Wildmon; three children, Samuel Wildmon and wife, Sandra, of Drasco, Samathea Kelley of Hopewell, and Sampson Wildmon and wife, Sandie, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Baron and wife Tracy, Rebekah, Morgan Lueen, Maegan Luann, Freelin Elijah, Mariah Lueez, Faith Elizabeth, Felicia Elise and Marissa; his loving mother-in-law, Corine Webb; and one sister, Lois Heigle of Tumbling Shoals. Mr. Wildmon is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 30, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at South Cross Roads Church at Hopewell. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, at 2:00 p.m. at South Cross Roads Church with Bro. Michael Morrison and Bro. Kenneth Rolland, Jr. officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in South Cross Roads Cemetery.
