Ray Miller Cockrill, 63, of Searcy died Monday, April 29, 2002, in Houston, Texas. Born May 24, 1938, at Sage, he was the son of Thada Miller Cockrill & the late Hayden Cockrill. Survivors include his wife, Mary Murphee Cocrill of Searcy; a daughter & son-in-law Tammy & Peter Gavin of Batesville; a son & daughter-in-law, Alan & Deborah Cocrill of Batesville; a son, Doyle Cockrill of Batesville; a stepdaughter & son-in-law Tiffany & Russell Evans of Searcy; 6 grandchildren, Matthew Gavin, Rachael Gavin, Meagan Cocrill & Hayden Cockrill, all of Batesville, Hayden Evans & Ryleigh Evans both of Searcy, his mother of Batesville; & 2 sisters & brothers-in-law, Helen & Virgil Sweeney & Louise & Virgil Zastrow all of Peoria, Illinois. He served as executive director of White River Rural Health Center Inc. of Augusta since 1987, providing healthcare services to the residents of the Delta region. Previously he served as the administrative director for North Arkansas Human Services Inc. & as the administrator at North Arkansas Clinic. He was chairman of the board of Community Health Centers of Arkansas, the Southwest Primary Care Associating & White River Regional housing Authority, Inc. Additionally, Mr. Cockrill served as a board member for the National Association of Community Health Centers & Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute. He was a retired major in the Arkansas Army National Guard having served in active duty during the early 1960's & retiring from the Reserves after 20 years of service. He was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral services will be a 2 p.m. Thursday at West
Baptist Church in Batesville with burial at Caney Springs Cemetery in Sage. Pallbearers will be Joe Don Reynolds, Mike King, James Miller, Dr. Russ Evans, Peter Gavin, Matthew Gavin, Dr. Nikolas Paslidas, Dr. Steven Collier & Dennis Wiles. Honorary pallbearers are the staff & board of directors of White River Rural Health Center Inc., Larry Arnold, Ken Tillman & the board of Directors of Woodruff County Nursing Homes/John E. Davis Residential Car Facility. In memory of Ray & his may years of contributions to health care, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, CARTI, M.D. Anderson Cancer Society, White River Medical Center Foundation or the local charity of one's choice.
