Robert S. Richards, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Rogers, died here Monday after a lingering illness at the age of 83 years and eleven months. The deceased was a native of Indiana but moved to Illinois at an early date. He was a Union soldier and served in the 48th Illinois under Gen. John A. Logan. He moved to Arkansas in 1885 and has been a resident of Benton county ever since. He was the father of ten children of whom five are living: D.R. Richards of Bentonville; Thos. Richards of Grove; Al Richards of near Bentonville; Mrs. Mayo and Kate Richards of Rogers. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.H. Maddox and burial was in the city cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic order of which he was the oldest member. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the community.
