J.F. Archer departed this life on Friday, Nov. 11th, 1898 at the age of 48 years at his home at Lowell. He was born in Warrick county, Indiana where he lived until 1878, when he came to Benton county, Ark., where he has since lived. In 1873 he was married to Miss Mahala Stallings, who survives him. They had born to them four children, three of which are living. He had been a member of the Masonic fraternity for over 25 years. In 1888 he made a profession of religion and joined the Christian church, of which he has since been a member. Mr. Archer was loved and respected by all who knew him. He had been a sufferer for a number of years from tuberculosis. His sufferings were borne with fortitude and patience. When told by his physician only a few hours before the end that he must go, he said: "I know it and am ready to go." He thanked his physician kindly for his services and said he knew his case was beyond human aid and only wanted him to make him as comfortable as possible while he was here. It was only a few hours until the end came.
