Mrs. Myrtle Nutter Atkins, 81, of Hamburg died Monday, April 9, 2007, in Searcy. A native and lifelong resident of Hamburg, she graduated from Hamburg High School in 1944 and loved class reunions and getting together with her classmates. She was a member of the Gardner Baptist Church, a homemaker, a beautician and a furniture upholsterer for people in Ashley County for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Carl Nutter and wife Mary Ellen of Searcy and David Nutter and wife Dolores of Hamburg; four sisters, Norma Lawrence, Robbie Walter, Macel Overla and Velma Farmer, all of Hamburg; a granddaughter, Kristin Nutter; and a step-daughter, Elizabeth Nash of Stuttgart.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elza Nutter in 1978 and R.F. "Top" Atkins in 1996; her parents, Floyd & Lillie Norrell Bennett and two brothers, Aubrey & Leward Bennett.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, April 13, in the Gardner Baptist Church with Rev. Cliff Bernard officiating. Burial will be in the Cleveland Cemetery. Pallbearers are to be Lee Thornhill, Russell Maxwell, James Tassey, Ted Rial, Sammy Oden and Charles White. Honorary pallbearers are to be members of the Hamburg High School class of 1944.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice Homecare, 106 S. Spring Street, Searcy, AR 72143. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
