HOGAN, J.H. - Rev. J.H. Hogan died at his home near Maysville last Saturday morning, March 21st, after a sickness of several days, having been in poor health for some years. We failed to get particulars regarding the deceased but know that Rev. Hogan was one of the landmarks, being an early settler of this section of Benton Co. He was a Baptist minister who for many years has been putting forth effort in pointing sinners to the Lamb of God and was highly respected by many friends. He leaves a family. The funeral was held the first of the week and burial occurred at the family cemetery near Maysville. The News joins in extending the bereaved family condolence.

In memory of my dear yoke-fellow and co-laborer in the ministry, Eld. J.H. Hogan. Brother Hogan was born in North Carolina in 1842 and while a child moved with his parents to the state of Georgia and when he was eleven years old professed faith in Christ and joined the Baptist church. At the age of twenty-one or two he began to preach the gospel of Christ and coming to Arkansas in the beginning of the seventies, where he opened a field of labor and of usefulness which has yielded a good harvest and will continue to bring forth much good fruit. As a citizen he was patriotic, as a preacher he was in love with his message and the people hung on his words; as a husband and father he was gentle and kind. We shall all miss him from our circle and feel very keenly our loss, but we sorrow not as others who have no hope, but humbly bow to heaven's will. To the bereaved ones we offer our condolence and pray the consolation of heaven upon them. J.W. West.
