Springdale Man Dead in Crash
A 26-year-old Springdale man died early Friday in a one-car wreck on Monitor Road, police said. Michael David Errett was a passenger in a car driven by William Stewart, who was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
The accident occurred about 1:35 a.m. on Monitor near Myers Lane. Stewart, 29, also of Springdale, was driving a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass east on Monitor when he ran off the road in a curve. The car went about 270 feet further, coming to rest on the opposite side of the road, and overturned.
Erret was partially ejected out the passenger's window. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County coroner.
Stewart's blood alcohol level was recorded at .16 percent, over the .10 percent level considered evidence of being intoxicated. He was also ticketed with failure to maintain control and having no liability insurance.
The accident is still under investigation and information will be forwarded to the Washington County prosecutor's office for determination of the filing of additional charges.
Seat belts were not used, police said.
Springdale Fire Department paramedics responded to the accident and extricated Erret from the vehicle. Stewart refused treatment.
