Goldie Eunice (Nicey) Sneed, age 96, of Quitman passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Heber Springs. Born in Pearson on February 4, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Melissa (Howell) Bettis.
A longtime resident of Quitman, Mrs. Sneed was a homemaker and a member of the Home Demonstration Club and the Quitman United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Sneed; one grandson, Greg Sneed; two brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Sneed is survived by three sons: Wallace Sneed and his wife, Jo Ann, of Heber Springs, C. M. Sneed and his wife, Carolyn, of Quitman, and Pat Sneed and his wife, Ann, of Quitman; one daughter, Marvelle Burford and her husband, Lynn, of Quitman; one sister, Lila Porter of Benton; seven grandchildren, David (Tonya) Sneed, Karen Ann Davison, Mitchell (Vickie) Sneed, Janie Baker, Angie Wilson, Kristie (Kenneth) Barger, and Chad (Rae Dean) Burford; 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sneed is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
The family sends a special thanks to the nurses at the Baptist Health Medical Center - Heber Springs and also the staff at the Golden Living Center and the staff at Olmstead Funeral Home.
Services were held April 25 at the Quitman United Methodist Church with Lynn Burford and Brad Sneed officiating. Interment followed in the Quitman Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Barger, Keaton Barger, David Sneed, Mitchell Sneed, James Baker, J. C. Davis, Brad Sneed, and Billy Joe Swaffar. Honorary pallbearers were Chad Burford, Karen Davison, Angie Wilson, Janie Baker, Kristie Barger, and Sue Phillips.
