Rogers Fire Kills Father, Daughter

ROGERS — A father and his four-year-old daughter died early today when flames destroyed their frame home just inside the city limits.

Two other children were flown to a Little Rock hospital for treatment of burns. The mother and baby escaped.

The dead were identified as Jimmie Clyde Roe, 29, and his four-year-old daughter, Billie Jean Roe.

Hospitalized at Little Rock are Robert Roe, 7, and Jimmy Clyde Roe Jr., 6, The mother, Mrs. Norma Jean Roe, 23, and her 18-month-old son, Ronald, were uninjured.

Firemen said the father, who apparently discovered the fire about 12:05 a.m. managed to get Mrs. Roe and the baby out of the house, then returned for Robert and Jimmy Clyde.

After escaping from the burning home with his two sons, the father plunged into the flames a second time in an effort to save the daughter, Bille Jean. Both were killed.

The two injured children were flown to Little Rock by Rogers Contractor F. G. Larimore in a private plane. Their conditions were described as serious.

The Rogers Fire Department responded to the alarm with all of its equipment, but was badly handicapped by lack of water. Firemen hauled water from a water main at City Hall a mile from the fire, and brought the flames under control about 1:30 a.m.
