Carthel Arwood Ghent went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2009. He was born on February 6, 1915, in Heber Springs, Arkansas, the son of the late John Franklin Ghent and Emily Elizabeth (Betty) Smith Ghent.
He was preceded in death by three brothers Hermon Ghent, and Obie Ghent, Codie Ghent, and one sister, Iona Ghent Haile.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Grace Spears Ghent; daughters, Paula Ghent and Janice Edgemon; three grandchildren, Ryan Edgemon, Paige Ghent, and Erin Edgemon; and one great-grandson, David Edgemon. All reside in the Dallas area.
He proudly served his country as an Army Staff Sergeant in World War II, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, and worked for 29 years as an accountant for Arkla Gas Company in Shreveport, Louisiana, retiring in 1980. He was a long-time member of Trinity Heights Baptist Church, also in Shreveport, serving as a deacon, deacon chairman, treasurer, and was a member of numerous committees. He and Grace were active members of the church's 39ers senior citizens' group. He was also a long-time supporter and board member of Trinity Heights Christian Academy.
