PIGGOTT: John Ray Howard, 77, of Piggott, formerly of Melbourne, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, in a Piggott hospital.
Born July 10, 1929, in Stella, he was the son of George Washington Howard and Blanche Edna McCarrol Howard. He was a pipeline contractor and played the steel guitar. He was a member of Hitts Chapel Baptist Church in Piggott.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Finley; three sons, Frank Howard of Grand Junction, Colo., James Howard of Los Lunas, N.M., and Phil Howard of Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Jacquie Black of Elk City, Okla., Suzi Howard of Decatur, Ga., and Teri Michelle Howard of Cartersville, Ga.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces, including Joe Davidson, Pat Davidson, Paula Cone, Janet Teague, Eddie Howard, Ann Hopper and Pam Turner, all of Melbourne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Boyce Howard and Roman Howard; a half-brother, Hubert Howard; and three sisters, Lois Davidson, Anna Moore and Louise Bisson.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday with Ricky Burke and Howard Black officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Melbourne Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
