MELBOURNE – Jessie Leonard Hamley, 68, of Melbourne died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, in Batesville.
Born April 10, 1939, in Athens, Ala., he was the son of Elmer and Edna Thomas Hamley. He was united in marriage to Willie Tate on Nov. 23, 1957. During his working years, he was employed by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Melbourne. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and playing music. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Melbourne First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mike Hamley of Fayetteville; a daughter, Theresa Vest of Melbourne; two brothers, Franklin Hamley of Harvest, Ala., and Harold Hamley of Brockwell; four sisters, Janell Smith of Athens, Ga., Elaine Dupree of Toney, Ala., Carol Graham of Nashville, Tenn. and Joan Pursell of Toney, Ala.; five grandchildren, Melissa Sidden, Jason Sherrell, Eric Vest, Alexis Powell and Victoria Hamley; two great-grandchildren, Evan Ballard and Tyler Sidden; several nephews and nieces; and an aunt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a granddaughter, Jessica Ballard; two brothers, Donald Hamley and Roger Hamley; and three sisters, Marjie Hayes, Ruby Hayes and Mary Romans.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Doyne Robertson officiating. Arrangements are by Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
