MELBOURNE – Joseph Pinkney "J.P." Davidson Jr., 84, of Melbourne died Sunday, March 13, 2005, in a Calico Rock hospital.
Born May 9, 1920, at Sage, he was the son of Joseph Pinkney Davidson and Mabel Stroud Davidson. He was owner of the former Davidson Chevrolet and Olds dealership in Melbourne for many years, sales manager for the Cherokee Village Development District, a quarter horse breeder and a farmer. He was a member, deacon, past Sunday school director and choir director of Melbourne First Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, life member of the Izard County Fair Board and a founding member of the Hillbilly Horse Show Association. He married Lois Howard in 1944 in Albuquerque, N.M. After her death, he married Frances Mickley on April 11, 1969 in Melbourne. He enjoyed hunting and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joe Davidson and Pat Davidson, both of Melbourne; two daughters, Paula Cone and Janet Teague, both of Melbourne; four sisters, Verbal Murry of Albuquerque, Faye Shell of Sage, Helen Cooper of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Laura Hodges of Claremore, Okla.; nine grandchildren, David Cone, Lisa Gardner, Leslie Davidson, Scott Davidson, Eric Teague, Sarah Roark, Patrick Davidson, Jordan Davidson and Nicholas Davidson; and nine great-grandchildren, John Wiggins, Lindsey Davidson, Alex Davidson, Erica Roark, Ethan Roark, Zak Cone, Josie Roark, Eli Teague and Dawson Cone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; three brothers, Ronald Davidson, Ray Davidson and Von Davidson; four sisters, Gladys Helm, Mabel Helm, Alma Rose and Muriel Marchant.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Melbourne with Doyne Robertson and Danny Perryman officiating. Burial will be in Melbourne Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be Scott Davidson, Eric Teague, David Cone, Patrick Davidson, Jordan Davidson, Nicholas Davidson, John Wiggins, Shand Gardner and Will Roark.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Johnson, Harlan Parnell, J.B. Stroud, Robert Stroud, Jimmie T. Helm, John E. Miller, Fred Blankenship and Danny Perryman.
