Dorothy Patricia "Patty" Mathis, age 55, died Saturday, November 22,2008 after an eight year battle with cancer. She was born December 4, 1952, in Lake Village, Arkansas.
Patty enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grand babies. She also loved children. Her passion for kids started when she began driving a van for the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf. She received an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood from Shelby State. After moving to Heber Springs, she worked as a home visitor for Cleburne County Head Start for several years before opening her own daycare center. In 1993-94, Patty proudly received her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from ASU-Jonesboro. She taught at Jacksonville Christian Academy and at Triple S Christian School. Later she served as director of Circle of Love Daycare.
Patty was preceded in death by her father, Joe N. Avery; one brother, Roy Linn Avery; Maternal grandparents, JB and Lillie Belle Dodson; and paternal grandparents, Roy and Grace Avery.
She is survived by her husband of thirty-two years Everett "Red" Mathis; one daughter Teri Adams and her husband Charles; two grandchildren Jackson and Jolene Adams; Mother, Dorothy Avery; brother Jesse Avery and wife Ellen; two sisters, Sue Price and husband Floyd and Mary Cranford and husband Don, all from Heber Springs, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
The names of the 3 foster kids for Patty Mathis, are Crystal, James, and Jennifer King
