BROCKWELL — Mazell Morehead Melton, 89, of Brockwell died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, in Melbourne.
Born Nov. 14, 1919, in Gorby, she was the daughter of Wes and Allie Rush Morehead. She was united in marriage to Marvin Melton on Feb. 23, 1935, in Oxford. She was a housewife and a member of Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church at Oxford.
Survivors include four sons, Graden Melton and Lowell Melton, both of Brockwell, Jim Melton of Selah, Wash., and Gale Melton of Melbourne; a daughter, Marie Morris of Melbourne; three brothers, Edla Morehead and Haskell Morehead, both of Melbourne, and Mert Morehead of Moxee, Wash.; a sister, Joyce Anderson of Batesville; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Berlin Morehead and Herman Morehead; and a sister, Christine Hellums.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Doyne Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ronnie Morris, Danny Melton, Roger Melton, Teddy Blevins, Chris Melton and Charlie Melton.
Honorary pallbearers are Danny Donovan, Tim "Pete" Smith, Brian Smithart, John Jaynes and Brent Smithson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight.
