Luther Joseph Gillihan of Melbourne Arkansas, son of the late John A. and Sarah McCormick Gillihan, was born July 15 1907 in Twin Creek Arkansas. He died August 18, 1993, at White River Medical Center in Batesville Arkansas, at the age of 86 years.

Mr. Gillihan was united in marriage to Effie Neal January 9 1927, in Lions Creek Arkansas.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in World War II. On Pioneer Day, May 5, 1993 Luther & Effie Gillihan won the 'Longest Married Couple' award for 66 years of marriage.

And his wife,
Effie Neal Gillihan, daughter of the late A. D. Neal and Lila Ann constant Neal, was born October 31, 1910 in Guion, Arkansas. She departed this life December 22, 2011 in Mtn. Home, Arkansas at the age of 101 years and 1 month and 21 days.

She was united in marriage to Luther Gillihan on January 9, 1927 in Guion, Arkansas. She spent her life as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. During her working years, she was employed Hollywood Vassarette Company in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

She retired in 1973 after 23 years of employment. She was of the Church of Christ faith and a member of the Melbourne Church of Christ. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club for over 60 years and an honorary member of the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Bernice and Gene Koonze of Mountain Home, Arkansas; six grandchildren: Debbie Gillihan, Shawn Gillihan, John Gillihan, Gena Warner, Kathy Cotter, and Amy Schmidt; eleven great grandchildren; a good friend and neighbor: Brian Kirksey and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Luther Gillihan; one brother: William Neal; two sisters: Martha Gilbert and Bessie Condrey.

Funeral service will be Monday, December 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Melbourne Church of Christ with Chuck Crow officiating. Burial will be at Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne, Arkansas. Visitation will began at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 26 at the Melbourne Church of Christ.
