Pinkney Shipely was the son of John and Peggy "Polly" Sumpter Shipley
He was born 13 Aug 1841 in White County, Illinois. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Land 11 Dec 1865 in White County Illinois. From this union were 4 children. When Elizabeth died he brought the children to Arkansas and there he met and married Margaret Amanda Mada Sharp, 3 Apr 1883, daughter of Ephraim and Elvina Godwin Sharp. Pinkney and Mada had 9 children. Pinkney had served with distiction in the Civil War. He died 17 Feb 1912 in Bandy's Chapel Community, Jackson County, Arkansas. His wife, Mada Sharp Shipley was killed in the 14 Jun 1916 toronado that ripped through Jackson County. Her body was never found.
