Daughter of Seborn Thomas Carter and Hannah Smith Carter
Married William Thomas Caperton July 26, 1885. Mother of Olive "Ollie," Charles Franklin, Alva "Alvie" Joseph, John Alexander, Thomas, Samuel S, and Andrew Jackson Caperton. Mattie and William were also the parents of two infants, Allie and William, who died before their first birthday. The babies, Allie and William, are buried next to William and Mattie at Oak Valley Cemetery.
After her husband's death, Mattie resided for a number of years in the home of her son, Andrew Jackson Caperton.
