Mervin Theo Elliott of Melbourne, the son of Foncie Dewitt Elliott and Pearlie Maud Vest Elliott, was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Lone Star. He died Tues., July 22, 2008 in Melbourne.

He was in the U.S. Army WWII.

He was a member of the Melbourne Church of Christ. He married Carrie Lee Muncy, Aug. 22, 1947 and to this union three children were born.

Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Gearl Taylor of Oxford, and Sheila and Carl Phipps of Hickory Ridge; two brothers, Burl Elliott and Floyd Elliott, both of WA; two sisters, Verna Gillihan of WA, and Betty Jeffery of Melbourne; three grandsons, Kelly Phipps, Richard Elliott, Jr. and Christopher Elliott; two granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Richard Elliott; one granddaughter; one brother; and four sisters.

Funeral will be Friday at the Melbourne Church of Christ with Lawrence Sanders and Kelly Phipps officiating.

Burial will be at Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.

Pallbearers will be Jim Muncy, Duran Stapleton, Gary Stapleton, Marty Stapleton, Kenny Stapleton, Bobby Stapleton, Eddie Jeffery and David Graham.

Honorary pallbearers will be Boyce, Shelby, Junior, George, and Clifton Gillihan, and Cleveland Blankenship and Pete McClellan.

And his wife,
Carrie Lee Muncy Elliott, 70, died Wed., March 19, 1997, in Batesville. She was born Nov. 17, 1926 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was the daughter of Henry Russell and Mamie Etta Whiteaker Muncy.

She was a member of the Melbourne Church of Christ and Redbud EHC.

Survivors include her husband, Mervin Elliott; two daughters, Linda Taylor of Oxford and Shelia Phipps of Jonesboro; five sisters, Norma Jean Green of Huston, TX, Billie Jo McClellan of Mtn. Home, AR, Hazel Ruth Conyers of Manson, WA, Mary Kathryn Stapleton of Calico Rock, and Nancy Ann Stapleton of Peron; a brother, Jim Muncy of Melbourne; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral was Saturday at the Melbourne Church of Christ with Tom Brister and David Gibson officiating.

Burial was in Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
