Mr. Walter "Ed" Lanier, 81, of Hamburg, born July 6, 1922, in Decatur, AL, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS. A resident of Hamburg for the past twelve years and a former resident of Thorsby, AL, he was a retired machinist and owned and operated the Tomato Barn south of Hamburg.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War and World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Lanier, in November, 2001; a grandson, Chris Pennington; his parents, J. T. and Dougho Moore Lanier; and two brothers, W.B. and James Lanier.

He is survived by a son, Charles Lanier and wife Sandy of Thorsby, AL; three daughters, Glenda Pennington and husband Butch of Hamburg, Elizabeth Rawls and husband Leon of Monticello and Angie Craig and husband Mark of Hamburg; two sisters, Ruth Dunaway of Jemison, AL, and Pauline Kelley of Decatur, AL; twelve grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 17, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home chapel in Hamburg with the Rev. Ben Coulter officiating. Burial followed services at the Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tim Pennington, Tony and Darren Rawls, Jarrod Culp, Darren Birdwell, Henry Bissell, Charles Lanier, B.J. Craig, Michael Douglas and Gary Craig.

Mrs. Christine Lanier Mrs. Christine Lanier, 72, of Hamburg died Friday, November 9, 2001, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA. A native of Decatur, AL, and a Hamburg resident for the past ten years, she was a former resident of Thorsby, LA, a homemaker and a Jehovah's Witness. She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Hardy; her mother, Elsie Bailey Loggins; a sister, Irene Ireland; a grandson, Chris Pennington; and a granddaughter-in-law, Vicki Pennington.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Walter Ed Lanier of Hamburg; a son, Charles Lanier and wife Sandy of Thorsby, AL; three daughters, Glenda Pennington and husband Butch of Hamburg, Elizabeth Rawls and husband Leon of Monticello and Angie Craig and husband Mark of Hamburg; a brother, Donald Kookans and wife Sandy of Erie, PA; a sister, Dorothy Smith and husband George of Fort Myers, FL: 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 11, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Scott Roberts and Michael Scott officiating. Pallbearers were Tim Pennington, Tony Rawls, Darren Rawls, B. J. Craig, Charles Lanier, Jr., Henry Bissell, Darren Birdwell, Jarrod Culp and John Smith. Burial followed services at the Antioch Cemetery.
