Norman Augustus Kavanaugh, 60, of 512 E. Sixth St., died in a Little Rock hospital about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday following neuro-surgery for a gunshot wound in the head. Mr. Kavanaugh was found at his home early Monday afternoon, the victim of an apparent self-inflicted wound from a .45 caliber pistol. Officers are continuing their investigation of the incident. Born in Little Rock Oct. 8, 1905, the son of Dr. A. G. Kavanugh and his wife, Mattie Cajul Kavanaugh, he came to El Dorado in 1922. In June, 1943, he graduated from Adjutant General's School in Washington D.C. He served , with the rank of Major, as post adjutant in the Troop Carrier Command in World War II. His connection with the military reserve continued until Nov. 1, 1965, when he was officially retired from the United States Air Force Reserve. Upon his return to El Dorado in October, 1946, Mr. Kavanaugh operated Kavanaugh Motors for several years. At the time of his death he was manager of Union Finance Co. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Engstrom Kavanaugh, to whom he was married in 1924; a daughter, Mrs. M. F. (Bill) Beaton, Jr., and two grandsons, Norman (Skip) and Richard Beaton, all of El Dorado; also two brothers, Jack K. Kavanaugh of Little Rock and Waldo F. Kavanaugh of Hattiesburg, Miss. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young's. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, it was announced. (El Dorado Times - March 1, 1966)
