Mary Ellen Veazey James age 82 of Warren, AR. died Saturday March 31st at J.R. M.C. in Pine Bluff, AR. She was born September 28th, 1929 in Bradley County AR. a daughter of the late Lavoisier Matthews Veazey and Willie Jeanette Martin Veazey. She began her career as an employee with Bell Telephone as a switch operator before it went “Dial”, she assisted her husband as secretary of James’s Glass and Body, helped pioneer the female entrepreneurial spirit in Warren by opening a Mod-o-Day Clothing Store and eventually opening Mary’s House of Fashion in down town Warren’s main street for 20 years. She was a 50 year active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, served in the Joy Sunday School Class and loved volunteering with the church’s Jerusalem’s Project. She was past president of the Bradley County Chamber of Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther P. James on July 1st, 2006. They were united in marriage on April 25th 1953. Also, preceding her in death is a sister Vivian Ferrell. Mary Ellen James is survived by 2 daughters, Jennie Lynn James, Bryant, AR. and Paula Lewis and spouse Randall, Warren, AR. 2 brothers, Ray Veazey, Godfrey Place, AR. and Gene Veazey, Monticello, AR. 3 grandchildren. Mackenzie Barrett, Dallas, TX. James Lewis and Haley Lewis both of Warren, AR. Funeral services were 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 3rd at Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Wayman Mann and Rev. David Richey officiating. Janice Sullivan was organist and the Immanuel Baptist Church Choir sang. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Don Miller, David Miller, Danny Green, David White, Freddie Mobley, James Hunter, Jimmy Reep and Bobby Hargrave. Honorary pallbearers were Bubba York, David King, Jimmy Massey, Joe Mullins, N.P. Mathur, Donnie Bryant, H.P. Reaves, Glynn Ferrell, David Ferrell, Gene Veazey, II., Ronnie Lanier, Micah Richey, Josh Doss, Tommy Cornish, Charlie Ezell, Deacons of Immanuel Baptist Church, Joy Sunday School Class and Immanuel Jerusaleum Project. Memorials preferred the Immanuel Baptist Church’s “Jerusalem Project” 701 West Pine Street, Warren Arkansas 71671.
