JOHN K. POOL DIES SUNDAY

Funeral For Ex-Federal Soldier, Banker Held Today at Thompson

John Knox Pool, 88, member of the board of directors of the MeIlroy Bank for 30 years, died at his home at Thompson early Sunday morning, after a long illness.

Funeral services were held this afternoon with Rev. Robert Reed of Combs officiating. Burial was in McCord cemetery. He was a Civil War veteran and military honors were in charge of the American Legion of Fayetteville.

Pallbearers were: Active - B. M. Shumate and W. A. Foster, both of Thompson; Marion Wasson, Fred Raedels, J. B. McConnell, M. A. Stice, J. C. Wilson and Charles McCatherine.

Mr. Pool was born in Charleston, Ark., Sept. 19, 1843, the son of Petty Pool and Lucinda Gailey Pool. His father was born in Greenville, S. C., and his mother in Hail county, Ga.

He enlisted in the army Nov. 1862 and was discharged Aug. 3, 1863. He was chief trumpeter in the 1st Arkansas Volunteer Regiment, U.S.A. He had been in the mercantile business at Thompson for more than 43 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Frances Pool, herself seriously ill; and the following children, Walter Pool, Gertrude Pool Thompson, both of Thompson; Noel Pool of Delaney and Ben Pool of Durham.

The McIlroy Bank and Trust company closed this afternoon at 2 o'clock for the funeral hour.
