Mattie Modess Collie Stowers, 82, daughter of the late Robert Jahadiah and Bertie Elizabeth Breden Langston, was born on March 10, 1920, in Mount Pleasant, Ark. She departed this life on Aug. 24, 2002, in Batesville. She was married Henry Jackson Collie in January of 1939, and to this union, eight children were born. Following his death, she married Fred Stowers in 1994. During her working years she was employed at Colonel Sheffield's Grocery Store in Guion. Later she worked at the American Burger Center until she retired at age 71. She was a member of the Guion Pentecostal Church. Survivors are her husband, Fred Stowers of the home; two daughters, Judy Qualls of Evening Shade, and Jenice Haley of Melbourne; four sons, Leonard Collie of Mount Pleasant, Kennard Collie of Melbourne, Burton Collie of Mountain Home, and Kenneth Collie of Newport; three sisters, Myrtle Williams of Sidney, Lorene Reynolds of Heber, Ariz., and Montene Barksdale of Wenatchee, Wash.; two brothers, Bob Langston of Melbourne and Doyle Langston of Sage; 12 grandchildren, Tawnie Collie, Nicole Parker, Tim Collie, Cheryl Massey, Robert Holegate, Raymond Dickinson, Jamie Ferguson, Johna Walker, Bryson Collie, Bryan Collie, Casey Collie and Matt Haley; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one husband; one daughter, Ida Jo Rhodenbaugh; one infant son; two sisters, Ruvena Fitzsimmons and Pauline Langston; and two brothers, Shelby Langston and Melton Langston.
