Leonard “Buck” McGowan, age 85, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2010. He was born August 25, 1925, in Heber Springs to the late Johnny David McGowan and Alma Louise White McGowan. Leonard was one of eight children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha McGowan; three brothers; three sisters; one son, Wendell McGowan; and one great-granddaughter, Allison Cavender.

Leonard was of the Baptist faith. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He was a World War II POW survivor and a disabled veteran of the United States Army.

Leonard is survived by: three sons, Charles McGowan and wife, Paulette, of Palestine, David McGowan of Heber Springs, and Johnny DeWayne McGowan and wife, Brenda, of Heber Springs; two daughters, Patricia Cavender and husband, Joseph, of Quitman, and Sheryl Rushing and husband, Paul, of Heber Springs; one sister, Roberta Rodgers of Payson, Arizona; eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Olmstead Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 8, at South Cross Roads Church, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Rolland, Jr. Interment with military honors will follow at the South Cross Roads Cemetery. 08/25/1925will serve as pallbearers.
