Elbert Whitehurst, 79, died November 19, 1997 at the U.A.M.S. Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark. Born November 17, 1918, he was the son of the late Ben B. and Lura (Adcock) Whitehurst.
A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mr. Whitehurst was a retired employee of the Corps of Engineers and was a farmer. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a part member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. His religious befief was of the Pentecostal Faith.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul Whitehurst, Orvil Whitehurst, Hezekiah Whitehurst, John L. Whitehurst, and his twin brother, Albert Whitehurst and two sisters, Wilma Webb and Verda Singleton.
Survivors include: his wife, Bonita (Harris) Whitehurst of Heber Springs, Ark.; two sons, Randall Whitehurst of North Little Rock, Ark. and John Thomas Whitehurst of Herber Springs, Ark.; three daughters, Sandra Carol Logan of Little Rock, Ark., Glenda Hazel of Caruthersville, Mo. and Bonnie Mae Whitehurst of Herber Springs, Ark.; one brother B.J. Whitehurst of Anderson, In.; three sisters, Zelia Ghent of Searcy, Ark., Elavand Adcock of Burrow, In. and Beulah McCort of Arlington, Tx.; eight grandchildren, Haley Whitehurst, Caleb Whitehurst, Tabitha Wood, Anetha Walton, Susan Logan, Bentley Bailey, Michael Hazel and Matthew Hazel and three great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Services were held November 21, 1997 at 2 p.m. at the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Bruce Smithson and Rev. Haskel Marion officiating. Burial was in the South Cross Roads Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers were: Eddie Hensley, Tom Hensley, Bentley Bailey, Mike Harris, Wayne Reeves and Willie Morgan. Honorary Pallbearers were: Jerry Allen, Bob Tubbs, William Bitner and members of the D.A.V.
