Carlos Wade Conrad the son of Ray Hilton Conrad and Noble Eve Conrad of Corning Arkansas enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserve on October 5, 1965 in Little Rock. On extended active duty in Vietnam he was assigned to and served with Company L, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

On June 29, during a patrol west of the Phuoc An (2) hamlet in the Ly Tin District of Quang Ngai Province the Marines came into contact with the enemy. Hit with automatic weapons and 60 mm mortar fire, two men were wounded and PVT Conrad was killed by the hostile small arms fire.**
