Joy Lee Baker, 77

Joy Lee Baker, of Viola, daughter of the late Luther Holstine and Alpha
Williams Holstine, was born Sept. 22, 1934 in Viola, AR. She died Aug. 28, 2012 at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas at the age of 77 years 11 months and 6 days.

She was united in marriage to A.J. Baker on November 28, 1953 in Viola and to this union three children were born. She worked at Capital Mercury Shirt Corporation of Salem for a number of years and also helped run the family dairy farm. Along with making a large garden, she made many quilts during her life, which she gave to her children, grandchildren and many others. She always thought of others before herself and was always there when needed. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Elizabeth where she was a Church Treasurer for many years.

Survivors include her husband of the family home; two children, Bobby Baker and wife Sherry of Viola, and Janice Woods also of Viola; three
grandchildren, Gary Wayne Baker and wife Amy of Viola, Robert Jay Baker and wife Gina of Yellvile, and Andrea Trail and husband Nathan of West Plains, MO; five great-grandchildren, Charolett Baker, Ashly Baker, Dustin Baker, Haley Baker, and Braxton Trail; seven brothers and sisters, J.H. Holstine of Caulfield, MO, Mary Ruth Baker of Elizabeth, Louise Crotts of Mountain Home, Devene Gilbreath of Ashflat, James Edward Holstine of Viola, Joe Dale Holstine Of Richmond, KS, and Carmon Neal Holstine of Viola, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son David Wayne Baker who died at the age of 14; a brother, Cleo Holstine who died in infancy, and her father and mother.

Funeral Services are Sunday, Sep. 2, 2012 at 2 pm at the Flora Baptist
Church with burial to follow in Flora Cemetery, under the direction of
Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem. Pallbearers are, Larry Baker, Don Baker, Duane Guffey, James Hutson, Vernon Hutson and Brad Hutson. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Baker and Robert Baker. Visitation will be Saturday from 6-8 pm at Cox-Blevins Chapel.
